Darling buds of September

It’s September but we still have rosebuds. We also have clay soil which roses love – thus still so many buds. Plus mini heatwaves with bouts of rain which has meant happy roses and vases filled with them inside the house.September pink rosesRose climber steps

This week I cut a bud off each climber and shrub still blooming then put them in little bottles.Nine rose buds

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,

Old Time is still a-flying;

And this same flower that smiles today

To-morrow will be dying.

Cut rosebuds and mini bottles

Most of the buds opened up within a day or two. Only two failed to ever open. Flowering rose buds

I noticed today that one single dark red bud has appeared on one rose shrub that I didn’t include in my mix. I will let it open and enjoy the September breeze and sun before cutting it and bringing it inside.

  1. I adore roses, I’d love more in my garden – I’ve a pink climber, pink and red bush ones plus a white patio one. There are some great big red rosehips on a couple of them now which are beautiful too. I like the pink one in the top picture, a gorgeous blush colour.

  2. Oh so lovely, this has been the first year that I’ve really started to love roses to the point of wanting to plant our own.
    How nice to be able to wander out to the garden and gather them to bring indoors Kriss x

  3. They look gorgeous. Love the 3 vase set.

    WE have lots of roses, but they’re actually my in laws. They don’t pick them, but I think the’d have something to say if I took some.

  4. You are the rose whisperer! I had no idea thet liked clay soil, will remember that for if I ever attempt growing my own.
    Gorgeous photos, you’ve really captured the changing beauty of the roses perfectly.

  5. I’m still trying to persuade my husband that we need a climber rose round our front door. He doesn’t seem to realise what we are missing out on!
