‘Wild Spring Meadow’ and ‘Ranunculus Garden’ are two large botanical photo art prints released as part of the Wild & Garden collection. Each of these contrasting statement pieces involved taking a series of photographs in the meadows and in the garden, then adding, blending and editing to the minutest details. My creative vision was that each would represent the stunning beauty of nature, whether the wild and varied abundance in the countryside or the lushness and exuberant colours in the garden.
It’s such an honour knowing some of these photo art prints are now in collector’s homes – and even in a New York café!
Details from each of these botanical artworks will soon feature on phone cases and accessories in the Wild About Here shop.
Ranunculus Garden

Inspired by 17th century Dutch masters and their still lifes, this masterwork shows the curated beauty of a flower garden.
Instead of setting up a floral display in my studio, I created this still life by photographing a series of the flowers directly in a flower bed in my garden. The green foliage on cloudy days worked as the perfect darker background outlining the bright colours of the flowers.
If you look at ‘Ranunculus Garden’ closely you will see that wildlife and insects are part of this floral microcosm. The natural world moves and rests among the flowers including butterflies, bees, a white ermine moth, insects and even a snail. The petals are not perfect on all the blooms as some fade or show where insects have been grazing on their petals.

The garden cultivated flowers include Ranunculus, Anemones, Bowle’s Mauve, a Dwarf Iris (Iris reticulata) Roses and Snapdragons. There are also Grape Hyacinths, Borage, and Viper’s Bugloss – native wildflowers that also grow in my garden.
As I grow most of the flowers featured in my botanical art photography, I discovered that Ranunculus, Anemones, and Snapdragons thrive in the winter months in our Mediterranean temperate climate. Many keep flowering in Spring but become dormant during the dry and hot summer months.
Wild Spring Meadow

‘Wild Spring Meadow’ highlights the native flowers growing in the central area of the Algarve in southern Portugal. In this botanical photo artwork, I wanted to share the stunning jumble and mix of wildflowers all found in a natural meadow at the height of the spring season.
The meadow setting was captured on the edge of a field on the lane where I live. I noticed the blooms of the Echium plantaginuem, commonly called Purple Viper’s Bugloss, were turning bright pink contrasting with red poppies around it, with a backdrop of wilting Glebionis coronaria – Crown Daisies – and the umbrella shape of the white umbel of the Daucus carota – Wild Carrot – hovering behind it. I then meticulously added and edited in more flora that appear in these wild meadows. I have built up a database of tens of thousands of photographs I’ve taken of wildflowers on my daily early morning walks. I also continuously study and identify each of the flowers I photograph, learning where and when to find each of them.

‘Wild Spring Meadow’ showcases the wild beauty of nature and how the nectar-rich plant species are beloved by the pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.

My limited edition botanical artworks are printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo fine art paper, which is composed of 90% Bamboo fibres and 10% cotton.
In the detail here of a print it looks like the butterfly is about to fly off the paper!
I prefer this archival and museum quality paper as it’s known for its environmental friendliness, age resistance, and its amazing high quality colour details.

I order artist proofs of every floral print to ensure that I’m happy with the quality and colours before releasing them as part of a collection.
Fine art prints are shipped worldwide from printing studios in USA, Germany, or UK depending on your location.
I look forward to featuring details from these botanical works on phone cases and accessories soon to be launched in the shop.
