cheese from Mecox Bay DairyThis morning I took my kids to the opening day of Sag Harbor’s Farmer’s Market.  A bounty of local produce and products were on display to delight the senses. Locally made honey, olive oils, breads, cheese, flowers, wine, herbs and even freshly caught seafood were among the choices. A well as sunshine and a backdrop of sailing masts in the local marina on Bay Street.

From mid-May through the summer – and some into October – the local farmer’s markets will make their weekly appearances across the East End of Long Island.

On Thursday’s from mid-June the Montauk Farmer’s Market will open in the Village Green. Friday’s we’ll be able to choose the East Hampton Farmer’s Market in the morning or Hayground School’s Market in Bridgehampton in the afternoons. Sag Harbor’s and Westhampton Beach’s markets will be open Saturday mornings while Southampton’s on Sunday mornings. eat locally sign at Farmers market in the Hamptonsfresh seafood

local farmers market in the HamptonsI feel it’s an opportunity to support farmers, fishers and food producers in the community. I can show my children the nutritious produce available from the land around us. My kids just love to taste, see and ask vendors questions at practically every stand. So in a way a local farmer’s market is another form of outdoor fun for kids in the Hamptons.
