Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Tale of the Wizard’s Whisper is the sixth book in the series about this now legendary knight written and illustrated by British author Kristina Stephenson.
In the latest book, a wizard sends Sir Charlie on the quest for a little black sack which is hidden in a deep, dark cave. The knight has to get past an ogre, advance through the spooky-wooky wood and outsmart mischievous scallywags in the pursuit of the mysterious bag. But what is the wizard up to? Why is there a wisp of a whisper trailing ahead of the gentle but smart knight as he overcomes each obstacle put in his way?
My kids have been fans of the heroic knight’s escapades ever since I discovered the first Sir Charlie Stinky Socks book.
Now they are six and the sixth book is out they can even start reading some of his adventures to me rather than the other way around. Like each of the books in the series, Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and Tale of the Wizards’s Whisper has giant page flaps. They are cleverly done and beautifully illustrated to guide children alongside Sir Charlie as he goes up high towers, or descends treacherously steep hills, or enters mysteriously strange places.
There was a wonderful unexpected twist in the final pages of this book which delighted my son and daughter. So I won’t reveal the ending as my lips are sealed, and unlike the wizard, not a whisper will escape them.

We haven’t discovered Sir Charlie Stinky Socks stories yet but I would love to add these to our shelves. It is great that these stories have bridged the early reader stage so that your children can begin to read these stories to you now. Can’t wait to get our own copies. Looks like a lovely series of books. Now that my kids are older I do miss reading them picture books! I’m pretty sure I can still repeat, word for word, some of the books they enjoyed.
